Our solutions

What is a signalling system?

A railway signalling system is a set of technologies used to manage train movements in complete safety.

It aims to prevent collisions, optimize lane use and inform drivers of traffic conditions. Its main objectives are safety, efficiency and communication.

The main components include visual signals (lights and signs) to indicate instructions to drivers, automatic systems such as blocks, which regulate track occupancy, and control systems such as ETCS, which monitor the position of trains. Control and command rail stations centralize traffic management, while detection devices such as presence and obstacle detectors ensure safety.

Signals along the tracks or in the cab inform the driver of the situation ahead, such as another approaching train or a switch. If a danger is detected, automatic braking can be activated. Switching controls ensure that trains are correctly oriented according to their mission.

Modern systems, such as ETCS, standardize signalling and train control, facilitating more automated and safer traffic management. These technologies guarantee the fluidity and safety of rail networks.

Compagnie des Signaux is the world leader in high speed signalling systems. It supplies on-board signaling solutions for trains and locomotives, trackside signalling solutions including trackside components, interlocking stations and locating and communication systems, control and command stations, and turnkey projects integrating all these solutions. To do this, it relies on a safety computer that guarantees the intrinsic safety of the solution while guaranteeing its availability.
